• Do a little research about the furniture manufacturer you will be working with.

A customer should always make sure that they are working with the right company. The only way to find that out is to do a research via online or through network of people to know about feedbacks or comments about the company. You can certainly speak with their customers.  Check their website or their social networking profile. It is all about trust issue. Do business with a company that you are confident about.

• Visit the factory.

See if the company can indeed handle your customization job. Take a look at their available products and check how well they are made.

• Discuss about the payment method, shipment, and policies.

Most of the furniture manufacturer would require a 50% down payment to start a customization job and 100% payment upon delivery. Find out how they are going to ship the furniture and make sure that it is going to fit your doorway. You also need to know how they handle defective furniture.

• Have the design and the specification ready.

Furniture manufacturer needs the design and the specification of the furniture you need. Provide them with picture/s and the sizes of the furniture--if you can provide the exact length and width, then that's great. In cases that you couldn't find a photo of your ideal furniture design, ask the manufacturer if they have in-house designer to sketch a design for you or, if not, work with your own designer.

Make sure that you are able to relay your requirements clearly to the manufacturer. If you have any specific material to use, say for example, the fabric for the mattress.

Manufacturers may assure that they deliver quality products; however, it is always good to check how your furniture are being made. This is a quality control process. It may not be necessary that you are physically present in the factory but you need to have updates. Request for pictures so you can track the progress.
