Pampanga is known for so many things. It is famous for its craftsmanship. It is popular for the Aling Lucing Sisig. It is even touted as the Culinary Capital of the Philippines. And every December, the province is a popular Christmas destination because of the Giant Lantern Festival. In fact, San Fernando in Pampanga earned the title as the Christmas Capital of the Philippines.
History says that lantern competition started in 1904. However, it was a lot simpler those days. Lanterns were just made out of paper glued over bamboo frames. Today, you'll see giant parols or lanterns in intricate designs and colorful lights created by every barangay.
